Artist Bio

Grammy Award winning guitarist Jason Vieaux is internationally recognized for his infallible technique and expressive artistry. His performances are celebrated as “virtuosic, flamboyant, dashing, and sometimes ineffably lyrical” (New York Times), cementing his place “among the elite of today's classical guitarists” (Gramophone). He has appeared with leading orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, Toronto Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Houston Symphony, and Nashville Symphony. A frequent recitalist and chamber musician, he performs regularly on distinguished series including San Francisco Performances, where he is an artist-in-residence, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, and the 92nd Street Y. He has performed on international stages including Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Seoul Arts Center, Shanghai Concert Hall, Sala São Paulo, and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires

Vieaux’s 2026-27 season includes a tour of Alaska with the Fairbanks Symphony’s Arctic Chamber Orchestra, as well as concerto appearances with the Kansas City Symphony, Pensacola Symphony, Folsom Lake Symphony, and Orchestra Concordia. He performs solo and chamber recitals with series including the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Seattle Classical Guitar Society, Chamber Music Albuquerque, Savannah Music Festival, Virginia Arts Festival, Music in the Mansion at Strathmore, University Musical Society at the University of Michigan, and Interlochen.

An in-demand collaborator, Vieaux frequently performs with the Escher String Quartet, mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, cellist Zuill Bailey, harpist Yolanda Kondonassis, accordion and bandoneon virtuoso Julien Labro, saxophonist Timothy McAllister, and guitarist JIJI, one of his protégés. He has premiered works by Jeff Beal, Avner Dorman, Vivian Fung, Pierre Jalbert, Jonathan Leshnoff, David Ludwig, Mark Mancina, and Pat Metheny, among others

Vieaux’s latest album Gratitude, released in September 2026 (Azica Records), features a collection of Vieaux’s original compositions for solo guitar. His extensive discography includes his Grammy Award winning album Play(Azica Records, 2014), which the Huffington Post called “part of the revitalized interest in the classical guitar,” and Shining Night (Azica Records, 2022) with celebrated violinist and frequent collaborator Anne Akiko Meyers. An expert interpreter of Bach, Vieaux released two volumes of the composer’s works transcribed for solo guitar. His performance in Bach Volume 2: Works for Violin (Azica Records, 2022) was acclaimed as “eloquent and vibrant” by Gramophone. He was featured in Pat Metheny’s album Road to the Sun (Modern Records, 2021), which includes Metheny’s solo guitar composition “Four Paths of Light,” written for and dedicated to Vieaux. His orchestral recordings include Jonathan Leshnoff’s Concerto for Guitar, recorded with the Nashville Symphony, and Jeff Beal’s Six Sixteen, recorded with the Norrköping Symphony.

Vieaux is on the faculty of Curtis Institute of Music, where he co-founded the guitar department in 2011, and Cleveland Institute of Music, where he has taught for over 25 years. His popular online guitar school through ArtistWorks attracts students from around the world.
