Artist Bio
A pianist of fiery temperament and virtuosity, Yulianna Avdeeva is the Gold Medalist of the 2010 International Chopin Piano Competition, which launched her to international fame. Acclaimed for her “spontaneous and volatile” performances, “full of depth and colour” (The Telegraph), and for “consistently [leading] the field in terms of sheer passion and musicianship, not to mention technical security,” Yulianna plays with power, conviction, and sensibility, winning over audiences all over the world with interpretations “truly to be reckoned with” (Gramophone).

A favorite artist in Europe, Yulianna has recurring concert engagements at the Concertgebouw, Wiener Konzerthaus, Elbphilharmonie, Pierre Boulez Saal, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Warsaw Philharmonic, and Wrocław National Forum of Music. She recently returned to the Salzburg Festival, Bremen Festival, and the Ludwigsburger Schlossfestspiele, and has been a guest artist at the Granada Festival, Festival Iturbi de Valencia, Solsberg Festival, and Duszniki International Chopin Piano Festival.
Highlights of Yulianna’s 2026–27 season include a recital tour of Asia across Japan and Hong Kong; a highly anticipated return to Carnegie Hall; recitals at the Alte Oper Frankfurt, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Palau de la Música Barcelona, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, and her recital debut at Toronto's Koerner Hall; and chamber performances with Quatuor Modigliani at the Concertgebouw and Liszt Academy of Music Budapest. Solo performances of Book I of Bach’s Well-Tempered Klavier will take place at the Casino Basel, Pierre Boulez Saal and Wiener Konzerthaus.
Orchestral performances this season, as a soloist, include Bartók's First Piano Concerto with the Musikkollegium Winterthur under Roberto González-Monjas as well as with the Philharmonisches Orchester Lübeck and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra; Grieg with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra USA; Tchaikovsky with the Hamburg Symphony and Franz Schubert Filharmonia; Rachmaninoff with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra; Chopin with the WDR Symphony Orchestra and Munich Philharmonic; and Prokofiev with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine. She will also make her debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra with Tchaikovsky under Zubin Mehta.
A critically acclaimed recording artist, Yulianna releases her eleventh album, Metanoia, featuring late works of Franz Liszt, on PENTATONE in August 2026. Previous releases on the label include Resilience (2023), Chopin: Voyage (2024), and a complete recording of Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues, Op. 87 (2025), which was among BR Klassik's albums of the year and received the prestigious Diapason d’Or Award. Following the album’s release, Yulianna performed the complete Op. 87 in venues around the world in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich’s death.
Her previous season included a tour of Korea and China, the “Chopin and his Europe Festival” in Warsaw, recital debuts at the Musikverein, Cologne Philharmonic Hall, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, and Houston’s DACAMERA series, and orchestral appearances with the Seattle Symphony, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. She was the soloist on the Europe/Asia Tour of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, performing Rachmaninoff and Beethoven with Andris Nelsons in Germany, Austria, Taiwan, China, and Hong Kong.
Yulianna has built a large social media presence, starting during the COVID-19 pandemic with the #AvdeevaBachProject, an online educational series that drew over half a million views. In 2023, she launched #YuliannasMusicalDialogues, an ongoing interactive video series where she shares the life and work of each featured composer and deconstructs her own phrasing, technique, and performance style.
